Important News for Alberta Divers                  
New Dive Flag & Area markers buoys are going in at Lake Minnewanka in Banff to protect divers better from boat traffic.  Please do not enter/exit at the Boat Launch area - this is for boat traffic only.  Use your compass to help ensure that you are diving within 75-100 ft of these new markers whenever possible.

Important News for Alberta Scuba Instructors/Stores Guiding Licences are needed for stores/instructors conducting training in Jasper in 2008. One time fee and on-line course is available. Contact the AUC office.

Jasper Aquathon participants (15 divers + family = 37) enjoyed very nice temperatures for most of the May Long Weekend 2009.  On Saturday & Sunday we couldn't ask for nicer weather but woke up to light snow in the campground on Monday am.  The Athabasca River was very low due to the late spring but those who participated had fun - the low flow = slow speed, so rocks were easily avoided. 

Special thanks to Northwest Scuba for their donation of a Sherwood BC - raffle earned $200 & was won by C. Zimmerman!

NEWS FROM SCUBA CLUBS

Calgary: Calgary Sub-Aquatic Club: has been busy working on the new Diver Marker Buoys now installed at Lake Minnewanka to improve DIVER SAFETY.  This has been a Joint project between Parks Canada, the Alberta Underwater Council, and Calgary Sub-Aquatic Club with the invaluable assistance above & underwater from active divers & instructors from the Calgary Area.  Advanced divers interested in helping out in the SPRING placement or FALL removal of this new Diver Marker system please contact: Warren Robinson: 403-519-2002.  Your AUC Membership helps support this & other Alberta dive projects over the years and is most appreciated.

Edmonton: Wing Diver Club with the Twin Lakes Training Facility (near Winfield):  Many changes & improvements to the dock have occurred this past year, many thanks to divers Gord Ross & Mike Hussey.  Of course, wear & tear is inevitable but please remember contact the AUC Office as soon as possible (1-888-307-8566, or 780-427-9125) and leave a message if you notice any current damage while diving there so repairs can be made promptly!
