Club
Warren Robinson: divedaddy@shaw.ca,
cell: 403-519-2002
One of the oldest non-profit scuba clubs in Alberta
that continues to facilitate social events, organizes diving activities &
assists other organizations in diving related activities since 1955.
The club slogan is Sport, Safety & Service. The CSAC is very active in
the spring & fall replacing & removing the diving marker buoys at Lake
Minnewanka in Banff every year. These buoys designate certain dive
sites as well as remind boaters on the lake that certain areas are a "no
boating area". This project could not be done without the assistance
of the Banff parks personnel & numerous volunteers. As club members we
also share in the responsibility of assisting the AUC as well as the CSAC in
fundraising activities. The club also participates in many lake & river
cleanups throughout the year. Club members organize dives to local
dive sites, dive/camping trips as well, so dust off your barbecue & let's
get ready for a another great year of diving.

The SDD focus is to provide a venue for diving related presentations, be a local contact group for both warm & cold water divers & to cultivate & sustain an interest in the sport of scuba diving. The club hosts anywhere from 18 to 70 interested divers for the monthly dinner meetings. Divers within our membership travel extensively & can usually come up with a member who has been to virtually any of the primary diving destinations throughout the world! Cheers, Tony.

Easter Trip to PORT HARDY with Mamro was enjoyed by a small group of Pub Diver members: visibility was awesome! www.mamro.com 08 NEWS: TRIP REPORT: TECH TRIP TO CENTRAL BC COAST: Several experienced divers from Edmonton’s Pub Diver’s group enjoyed a Technical Wreck diving trip to BC’s Central Coast on the liveaboard the MAMRO . It included deep & shallow wrecks, walls & muck dives. One highlight of the trip was the "Transpac", a wreck that sank prop-first and came to rest on a shelf at approx 300 feet. The wreck points straight up the wall, with the bow starting at about 110 feet. It’s a very exciting wreck to dive, as it’s not often one gets to see a large fishing vessel pinned vertically to a wall. We also made numerous stops along the way, looking for Ghost Bears, admiring many waterfalls, had a dip in the Hot Springs and toured the abandoned Cannery at Butedale. 07 NEWS: This year, club instructors
volunteered to assist the U of A Scuba Club & Edmonton's Wing Divers to host
a "Discover Scuba" event for a local chapter of the Big Brothers/Big
Sisters. Six adults & their "little brothers" participated in Scona Pool to
"try scuba". Our thanks to "Northwest Scuba" of Edmonton for
generously providing all scuba /snorkeling gear & to Wing Divers for
donating their pool time at Scona for this collaborative event.
Monthly pub nights were organized with lots of socializing happening.
The Pub Divers assisted during the "Annual JASPER AQUATHON" on May Long
Weekend & ran the "Hoop de do" Event at Lake Edith.

08 Event Debrief: June 14/08: 25 Registered Divers with over 50 in attendance. Many thanks to 2008 Sponsors: The Dive Outfitters, Northwest Scuba, Ocean Sports & the AUC 07 Event Debrief: June 16/2007: 35 Participants, both divers & lake-side shore support volunteers. Thank you to our Club volunteer Chefs': Linda & Gord Ross, Linda & Dave Pohl and Jeanie Hussey! A wee bit of rain damped the shore clean-up but (of course) the divers didn't care! The sun came out in time for the prize presentations & evening BBQ. Thankfully the thunder boomers & lightning missed Twin Lakes so the event didn't have to be postponed or cancelled. We wouldn't want to be in/on/or getting out of water during a lighting storm! Wing Diver Club acknowledges & thanks our 2007 Sponsors: The AUC and Edmonton's Northwest Scuba Ventures Ltd, 6815 - 104 Street, Edmonton, 780-438-1218 for PROVIDING prizes & Oceanic Delta Scuba Regulator Set: Draw Prize Winner: Linda Wadsworth - Congratulations! HOST FOR ANNUAL EVENT: Cold Lake Underwater Rodeo, August 15th, 2009 The 2009 Underwater Dive Rodeo, hosted annually by the Fort McMurray Wet and Wild Diving Society, and Co-Hosted by the 4 Wing Divers from Cold Lake. 2008 turned out to be a Great Success with 52 divers and 11 shore support. The weather was a scorcher, but most stayed cool in the water. 2008 events consisted of underwater checkers, spear gun target shoot, lost dive buddies, navigation poker rally, golf ball retrieval, and bouquets of fun. Diver’s experience ranged from newly certified to the numerous instructors found teaching dry suit, nitrox and navigation courses, as well as several Dive Masters assisting those in need. If there is one thing I can say about divers, is that we are such a diverse group of people! Nothing I enjoy more than to see young, Junior Divers, as well as Aged and Experienced Divers come out to enjoy our event. We had prizes for everyone!! Many thanks to the following Dive Shops and Organizations for their generous Donations for our event: Outdoor Essentials - Fort McMurray, Davco Diving - Wainwright, The Dive Outfitters - Edmonton, Ocean Sports - Edmonton, Northwest Scuba - Edmonton, Aqua Tek Scuba - Edmonton and the Alberta Underwater Council Special Thank You's to Charles “Red” Ehrich, Bill “Grandpa” Lazenby & Ben’s “Sandbox” Payette for setting up the course at the provincial park. These three work countless hours underwater to ensure we have a “Sand Box” to play in. As well, we can not have a successful event without Shore support. Thank you to Celine Payette, Debbie Parsons, and Kirk’s Wife for their help with food prep and pick up, timing our divers in and out of the water, and being so accessible when needed. Let us not forget Ron Cooper, Boyd Ash, Rob Duffy, Vincent Gauthier, and Daniel Gauthier for their assistance in set up and take down of the course. When small tasks need to be completed, you know you can always count on these guys! And last, but not least, a big Heart Filled Thank You to the Divers from all over Alberta, for coming out and participating in our Underwater Dive Rodeo. It’s you the Divers who make this day fun and exciting. I hope you had a wonderful time, and I look forward to seeing all of you again next year. Safe and Happy Diving!!
